462- Website Visits and Pinterest Shares To Optimize User Experience

Why I Took a Second Look at My Website

I’ll be honest, my website has been on autopilot for a while. I set things up years ago, installed a social sharing plugin, and then just kept it updated without really thinking about it. My focus has always been on client work, not my own site. But recently, I sat down with Andrew Wilder and Colin Newcomer of Nerd Press, the team behind the Hubbub plugin, and that conversation completely shifted how I see my website, not just as a place people land, but as a place they engage, explore, and actually stay.

What I realized is that I’ve been thinking about my site in an outdated way. I saw it as a static resource when really it can be dynamic, interactive, and deeply personalized for the person visiting it. That shift alone opened up so many possibilities I hadn’t considered before.

It’s Not Just About Social Sharing Anymore

For a long time, I thought tools like Hubbub were just for adding share buttons so people could post my content to Pinterest or Facebook. And yes, that’s part of it, but it’s only scratching the surface. What I learned from Colin and Andrew is that Hubbub, which is owned and developed by Nerd Press, has evolved into something much more powerful.

Now, it’s about creating pathways. Instead of someone landing on a page, reading something, and leaving, you can guide them to their next step. You can help them find more content that fits exactly what they need in that moment. It’s less about broadcasting and more about supporting the journey your reader is already on.

Creating a Better Experience for the Reader

One of the biggest mindset shifts for me was realizing that it’s not about what I want people to do on my site. It’s about what they want. Colin walked me through a feature called Save This, which lets readers save content to their inbox to read later and naturally adds them to your mailing list without the interruption of a pop-up. It’s such a small difference, but it completely changes the experience. The reader feels supported instead of sold to. And when that happens, they’re way more likely to trust you, come back, and actually engage with your content in a deeper way.

How AI Is Changing the Way People Explore Content

This was the part that really clicked for me. People aren’t just searching anymore. They’re asking questions, looking for specific answers, and expecting personalized recommendations. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of posts, they want the exact piece of content that helps them move forward right now.

Andrew and Colin showed me how Hubbub’s Action Buttons integrate this behavior directly into your website. Imagine someone landing on your content and being able to instantly find the next thing they should read or listen to based on what they care about. It turns your site into a curated experience instead of just a collection of posts. And honestly, that’s where everything is heading.

What I’m Doing Differently Moving Forward

After this conversation with Colin and Andrew, I’m not just “keeping my site updated” anymore. I’m actually thinking about how people move through it. I’m looking at how I can make it easier for someone to find what they need, stay longer, and feel connected to my content.

That means simplifying things, being more intentional with what I include, and testing new features that actually enhance the experience instead of cluttering it. It also means paying attention to where my traffic is coming from and meeting people there, whether that’s Pinterest, email, or even private sharing like texts and DMs.

At the end of the day, it’s not about having the most features. It’s about creating a space where someone lands and thinks, “This is exactly what I needed.” And now I see just how possible that really is.
