443- Getting Curious About Pinterest Marketing

Rediscovering Passion After Burnout

After 12 years of working in the Pinterest marketing space, I’ve seen trends come and go, but the one thing that never stops inspiring me is watching creators stay curious. That’s exactly what drew me to Meghan Hernandez. In this episode of the Simple Pin Podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing Meghan about her journey as a blogger, her temporary detour into Instagram influencer life, and how she ultimately returned to her blog with a renewed strategy and purpose. What struck me most was her willingness to challenge the norms and trust her own process.

From Blogging to Influencing and Back Again

Meghan started her blog eight years ago during a season of postpartum challenges, simply as a creative outlet. What began as a mental health lifeline turned into a business, but not overnight. Like many bloggers, she assumed great content would bring traffic on its own, but quickly realized the importance of promotion. Her initial comfort with Pinterest helped, but she eventually shifted focus to Instagram, drawn in by the promise of quicker returns and sponsored content. While she found some financial success there, burnout hit hard. Instagram’s constant pressure to perform, paired with its lack of traffic generation, made her feel disconnected from what she loved most: her blog.

Pinterest Marketing on Her Own Terms

What’s remarkable about Meghan’s story is how she approached Pinterest differently the second time around. Instead of chasing high-volume pinning strategies, she leaned into quality over quantity. With limited time as a full-time mom, she focused on creating strong blog content, photographing her own recipes, and designing one to three excellent pins per post. She ignored advice to publish 20+ pins a day and instead built a consistent, sustainable workflow, one that respected her time and honored her creativity. Her strategy was refreshingly simple: stay consistent, focus on outbound clicks, and follow what the data tells you, not what everyone else is doing.

Letting Curiosity Lead Over Strategy Overload

What inspired me most in our conversation was Meghan’s curiosity. She’s not afraid to test strategies, watch tutorials, or listen to others, but she always returns to what her numbers say. When she noticed group boards performing well for her (despite industry skepticism), she trusted the data and leaned in. That curiosity, rather than rigid adherence to Pinterest “rules,” has guided her growth. Instead of over-automating or chasing the algorithm, Meghan stays grounded in her content and her goals. It’s the kind of focus that turns creators into business owners, and it’s incredibly energizing to witness.

Blog Growth, Business Mindset, and Staying Grounded

Now that her kids are in school, Meghan is intentionally growing her blog again. She’s developing a strategy that balances creativity with business goals, publishing more content, and even considering hiring help. Through it all, she’s remained laser-focused on what truly matters: producing great content, respecting her energy, and letting data, not pressure, shape her next steps. Her story is such a powerful reminder that Pinterest still has so much potential, and that growth doesn’t have to come from hustle. Sometimes, it comes from clarity, courage, and curiosity.
