There seems to be a phenomenon that’s happening more frequently to bloggers who use Pinterest for marketing: their Pinterest account gets suspended for no apparent reason.

Today we’ll be covering what you should do if your Pinterest account gets suspended. It doesn’t happen very often. BUT if it happens to you, there are steps you can take to get your account reinstated with Pinterest.

Why Was My Pinterest Account Suspended?

In the last 10 years, we have worked with hundreds of clients and hundreds of accounts. We’ve only had an account marked as spam a handful of times. Almost every time, it’s been an accident.

Pinterest makes routine sweeps of the platform to get rid of actual spam accounts. These are accounts that pin the same thing 100 times a day or they pin sketchy content. If you have a Tailwind account, you might notice these sweeps when the follower count goes down.

It’s good that Pinterest does this, even if it means you lose followers. But in this process, sometimes legitimate users get caught up in the sweep. This makes it easy to freak out and think you did something wrong.

How do you know if this has happened to you?

If you click on a pin and try to go to your website and it tells you that the website was blocked (or something similar), that’s an indicator that your account has been marked as spam and suspended. If people are still able to visit your site (even if your Pinterest traffic is down), you have not been marked as spam.

Again, having your account suspended by Pinterest is typically just an accident. Don’t be too worried about being stuck in “Pinterest Jail” just because you pinned the same thing twice.

What To Do If a Pinterest Account Suspension Happens to You

What should you do if it does happen to you?

First, take a deep breath. Calm down.

Your account can be reinstated. However, it will take a lot of emails and could take up to ten days. As long as you’re continuing to talk to Pinterest and staying on top of it, your account will be reinstated. I’ve seen it happen hundreds of times.

If you have a contact person, (this could be a Pinterest rep if you’re doing promoted pins) contact them.

Second, determine which type of suspension you are dealing with. There are different types of suspension:

  1. Account suspension – this means you have no access to your account. Your pins will still continue to drive traffic to your site, but you cannot access your account.
  2. Blocked account – you will have access to your account and people will still be able to find you, but all of your links will be broken (which means no traffic).

Contacting Pinterest About Account Suspension

Once you determine what suspension form you are dealing with, you need to go to the Pinterest help desk

You can choose Appeal when contacting them, choosing between “appeal account suspension” or “Pinterest blocked my site,” depending on which applies to you. Fill in the form and submit it to Pinterest.

You can also email Pinterest via the Pinterest help desk and submit a contact request from that point.

You might receive an automated response from Pinterest. If it’s not automated, you’ll find the name of the person helping you at the bottom of the email. You can reply back to that email and re-explain what happened with your account.

Another useful avenue for contacting Pinterest for assistance with a suspended account is through their Pinterest Business Community Forum. If you aren’t having any success with the help desk, reach out in the Forum.

Be Persistent When Reaching Out to Pinterest

Pinterest won’t reply on weekends. It will take a couple of days for them to get back to you. I recommend filling out the form and also emailing Pinterest so that you’re doing double duty. Wait 2-3 days between each response.

This will feel frustrating. Be persistent and just keep emailing them.

They will tell you why your account has been suspended. You just need to keep explaining that you are not a spam account and didn’t post anything inappropriate.

Explain that you are a creator that creates content for the pinner. Pinterest wants you on the platform. You’re going to have to communicate this point repeatedly.

Again, the process to get your account reinstated on Pinterest typically takes 7-10 days.

Were You Spamming? Be Humble and Helpful

These steps should get Pinterest’s eyes on your account and help you get reinstated.

However, if you were in the wrong, and in fact, you WERE engaging in spammy behavior on your account, just admit that you were not in compliance with Pinterest’s Best Practices. Let them know that it was an accident and explain how you plan to avoid this happening in the future.

Humility goes a long way.

Remember, this person has the power to get your account back up and running for you. Make sure you’re respectful and helpful as they’re trying to help you.

Don’t take it personally if your account is suspended. It’s almost always an accident caused by a bot. It can be scary, especially if you’re ad-monetized.

This is a good wake-up call to look for ways to diversify your traffic sources and your site monetization strategy.

Over the past few years, these are the steps that have worked for us in order to get suspended Pinterest accounts reinstated. We will update this blog post if things change.

Make sure you bookmark this blog post and share it with anyone else so that if their account is suspended, they will know what to do.

    1. Jena,

There is no hard and fast rule. It depends a lot on how much content you have. I would say that consistency of pinning is more important than the number of times per day you pin. You’ll find more detailed guidance in our Pinterest Best Practices post.

      1. Hi, my account have been banned for like 2 weeks now and i can’t log in. It keeps saying me something went wrong:/ i also can’t reach the web help for pinterest. I do not know what to do. Please help mee

        1. My account was deactivated/suspended 5/27 and I have contacted them several times and I just get the automated response that I am suspended and they’ll look into it. I’m not a business I just pin ideas. What can I do??

          1. So sorry to hear about your account! Continue contacting Pinterest to recover access – stay persistent and patient!

          2. Did you manage to get your account back? I use pinterest every day and I’ve had my account for 8 YEARS and they’ve just deactivated it! I’m really scared that I’ll never get it back 🙁

      2. I have unexpectedly been suspended from my pinterest account can you please help me i have no clue what i did wrong or how to avoid this happening again please

  1. Mine was suspended and blocked about 2 weeks ago.

I first emailed support and they said it was a mistake and they had fixed it. But, they didn’t…

I keep emailing Creators and Support and Creators just keeps telling me that they have forwarded it to their internal team and Support just keeps saying it was suspended…

I’m not sure how to handle getting the same messages over and over and when I respond it says “Oops that didn’t go through – try filling out our Support form”.

I tried the 2 emails yesterday that you mentioned and both say they don’t work anymore…

Can you give me any hints or ideas to get through to someone who can fix it?

    Thank you!]
    Dian

    1. Dian,

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. It is certainly frustrating. We updated the links to the Pinterest Help Desk so I would suggest reaching out to the Help Desk via this updated link. My best advise is to BE PERSISTENT

  2. I was able to restore my Pinterest suspended account in less than 24 hours, I send them an email explaining that I didn’t do something wrong against your spam policies, and I included my blog URL and told them that I spent months create high-quality content and high engaging pins, and the next day I received an email from Pinterest says that they made a mistake and they reactivate my account and it’s up running and ready for business.

bottom line you just have to say what you did and prove that you’re legit and not a spammer.

    1. A happy ending! Yes, I agree. You followed the exact steps we’d recommend. Glad to hear you’re back in business Adam

      1. I got my account suspended 2 days ago and I don’t have an app id so I can’t use the help desk and I can’t find what pinterest’s email is, someone pls help!

    2. I had my Pinterest account suspended two days ago and still haven’t received any emails from them saying it’s been reactivated. I’m hoping for an answer soon because not having access is frustrating because of a “bot”

      1. Sorry to hear about this Barbara! We suggest you keep reaching out through the helpdesk and the Business Community. Persistence is key in this situation!

  3. I’ve also had the unpleasant experience of account suspension, through an over zealous automated bot. I went through the process you advise Kate, Pinterest apologized and reinstated my account within 10 hours.

I have to say though, I wonder if accounts are hamstrung in some way afterwards. Is this something you’ve heard of Kate?

  4. Thank you for this info! I created a new account and within minutes it was suspended. I followed your advice and contacted them, waited a few days, then did it again. Now it’s fixed! Thank you!

  5. Hi,
We didn’t get our account reactivated from pinterest, we have done till now 4 times mailed to support team. We didn’t made any mistake and we are the genuine content creators, we clearly explained them in the mail, how we will do hard work to produce genuine content, along with our website url. All the our operatrion are pending. Its been all ready 7 days.
Is there any way to get reactivated my account.
    Thanks in advance.

  6. Hi,
Can I use or link the same website with my newly created account after suspended?
Could it be blocked again if I do that?
Please help if you have any idea about this.

      1. Hey,

I was wondering if you had any further advice?

It’s been weeks now and every attempt to contact them every couple of days has failed. I am still getting standard responses from ‘The pinterest team’. I have not yet got through to anyone specific that has outlined my specific violation.

Is there anything more I can do?

        1. 1. If you’re a Tailwind client, you can try reaching out to them to see if they have any insights as to why your account hasn’t been reinstated.

          2. Set up an account in the Pinterest Community Forum (link in post) and continue to post in the forum asking for assistance (letting them know you’ve been marked as spam).

  7. My account was suspended two days ago and I was very upset that happen it made sad I cried those pins mean everything to me I worked so hard making boards with my favorite things and I wish that I can just go back in time or wish i can just log back in

    1. I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. It is certainly frustrating. We updated the links to the Pinterest Help Desk so I would suggest reaching out to the Help Desk via this updated link. My best advise is to BE PERSISTENT

  8. My account got a suspension yesterday. I’ve mailed them. They send a automatic reply and when I’m going to reply them it told me this :-

“Oof! It looks like your message didn’t go through. This usually happens if it’s been awhile since we’ve heard from you, or if your original question was closed. Sorry about that!

To ask a new question, just fill out our support form: http://help.pinterest.com/contact

We’ll get back to you as soon as we can!

    Thanks
    The Pinterest support team

    What should I do now?
    Will I get it back?
And how much it will take time ?

    1. All if my pins were recently de-indexed towards the end of October. My account wasn’t flagged (Pinterest confirmed that), however, my account went from 100k impressions per day to 6k. All of my pins are not searchable but my account is still active. My blog views have now dropped from 1,000 per day to 100. Pinterest refuses to help me. They keep telling me to post new and original posts. I create a new post at least once per week. I am devastated and frustrated. I have messaged Pinterest at least 20 times. They won’t help me. Any suggestions?

  9. hi
Thanks for this post ,pinterest suspended my account , i appeal 3 times but i got a reply from pinbot that they will not reactivete my account ,what to do i don’t understand ,even i don;t know what mistake i have done.can you please tell me what should i do now?

  10. Hi!
I am almost positive my account has been flagged as spam (which is how I found your article!). My pins went from thousands of impressions to 0 in a matter of a week.
Pinterest support is being less than helpful and blaming it on a content issue (obviously not given my previous 10 months pin performance) and not even addressing or acknowledging the drastic impression changes.
Do you have any advice or tips on how to actually get them to fix it? This is so disheartening. Thank you so much in advance!

  11. Hi, thanks for sharing this. It was super helpful. My account was supended a few days ago and I sent them a quick request so they would know that I’m interested in getting my account back. I didn’t hear from them.

After reading your post, I decided to send a second request, trying to explain myself more and it worked, I got my account back a few hours later.

I basically explained that I am not a spam account and didn’t post anything inappropriate. That I was a creator and that I create high-quality and high engaging content for the pinner. I also included my blog URL, and in my case I explained that I forgot about the daily limit of following as I didn’t get a reminder and was genuinely viewing other users content and following them.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that. If you don’t hear from them soon, then keep reaching out. I hope you get it reinstated soon!

  12. My board was taken down 9days ago for ‘self harm’ but it had nothing in it besides protein recipes and workout videos. I keep appealing but I’ve only got one response, and pinterest is not giving my board back. Do you know what I can do to get the board back?

    1. This is a tough one. If this board was a major traffic driver, then I would keep persisting to get some answers from Pinterest. They are limiting weight loss related posting, so it is possible your board triggered a filter as a result. I would ask them what was in violation because you “want to not repeat the same error”. It is always more successful to approach them with a willingness to learn their platform. Best of luck!

  13. Hey, thanks for sharing this. I am a new business owner and there is a Pinterest account whose username is my business name, and they are linking to my website on their profile. They don’t have any saved or created pins. I sent them a message from my personal account and filled out a form to notify Pinterest. Do you have any advice? It was a long process (as I’m sure you can relate) to find a business name that I loved and was available as a name, domain, and social handles. I would love to resolve this quickly

  14. Is it possible to create a new account if they don’t reinstate the account? I’ve been trying to get my account reinstated but haven’t had any luck so far.

    1. Great Question, Vero! We recommend contacting Pinterest in all the possible ways (Pinterest help desk, email Pinterest, and through the Pinterest Business Community) after determining the reason for your account’s suspension. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries, and the process typically takes 7-10 business days.

  15. Is it possible to just create a new account for the site that was deactivated? I’ve sent dozens of emails to Pinterest support and keep receiving the same canned response that they will not activate my account.

    1. We know it’s frustrating to wait for Pinterest to solve this issue but being persistent is key here. Try contacting Pinterest through the Pinterest Business Community!

  16. Hello,
My pinterest account has been deactivated/suspended due to, I believe, spam. I was uploading the same pin multiple times whilst pinterest was taking them down. I kept uploading it because I had thought it was a glitch and that’s why pinterest kept taking down my pin. I hadn’t realised that I was going against the guidelines by spamming.
I have tried multiple times reaching out from the help center, trying to explain and apologise for the inconvenience, but I haven’t received an answer yet. I also am not able to email them because when I did, the answer I got was ‘We’ve retired the email address you used, and our team won’t be able to answer your request.’ Also, I am not able to use ‘just answer’, nor am I able to send comments on the pinterest chat room because you have to use your account for it…
I have been using it for over a year and I really don’t want to loose my account.
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Aaliyah

    1. I’m sorry to hear about this, Aaliyah! My advice is to contact Pinterest through all their contact methods, including the Business Community. You’ll have to be persistent when reaching out to them. Sometimes you have to try a couple of times before they give you more information.

  17. Hello kate,
I can’t claim my website on Pinterest.
I have filled support form but still no reply.
I am frustrated. Please tell me what to do and thanks to you in anticipation.

  18. Hi there. I need your advice please. There is a new thing (🥴🥴🥴🤦🏻‍♀️) where you have to give them your DOB, and I was like yeah, whatever, I don’t even know what year I choose as I just started to scroll and when I hit the ok button button they were like “your account is deactivated because being under 13, blah blah blah”
So this happened on Friday, today is Thursday, sent them 💩load of emails and also on the website I’ve left messages.
So how do I get my 💩 account back as I will need it with the new house renovation 🤬🤬🤬 (or not because this app isn’t actually the middle of the world as they think 🤡🤣)
Really tired of the stupid apps and websites that think an under age kid can’t pretend they are 30 or something 🥴🥴🤡 what’s even the point of this?! It like the pathetic questions on porn sites “are you over 18?” 🤡🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
    Many thanks 👍

    1. I’m sorry to hear that happened to you! My best advice is to continue being extremely persistent with contacting Pinterest. It is not generally a quick process getting your account reinstated. You could also post in the Pinterest Business Community and see if they are able to help!

      1. This also happened to me last week. I tried your advice of contacting the Pinterest Business Community but you must log in to do that and I’ve been locked out, so that doesn’t work. Is there any other advice? I have tried 3 times sending in my ID and I just get automated replies that I’ll receive an email with a link to appeal, but that never comes either.

        1. I am unsure why you aren’t receiving the email with a link to appeal. Unfortunately there is not much you can do beyond persistently contacting Pinterest for support. I have heard from other users that it can sometimes take a few weeks to get your account reinstated – so stay patient! Good luck!!

  19. So my pinterest account was suspended a couple weeks ago, but I got a much different result.

Instead of reactivating my account they told me that the email was used to create a spam account; and told me to make a new one.
I have already done this but they haven’t been able to tell me what activity flagged my account (as I thought it might have been compromised)

Should i just drop it at this point or continue asking about the matter in hopes to get an answer or possibly reactivating my account.
I’m not heart broken over the loss of my boards but it is frustrating.

    1. Hi Kai,
I’m sorry to hear about your suspended account, that is frustrating indeed. If you’ve already heard back from the Pinterest Help Desk, you could start a conversation in the Pinterest Business Community to see if they have any additional insight on your issue.

  20. Hello , my email dosent receive emails um u got suspended for no reason can u jus wait until the suspended thing is over or do I have to do sumthing?

  21. Is it normal for Pinterest to ask to submit a form of identification such as my ID or driver’s license?

    1. This is not something we’ve heard of for Pinterest. However, other platforms (Instagram & Facebook) do this, so it’s possible that Pinterest is following suit.

  22. Ummm hi my account has been deactivated for 3days now I have cntacyed Pinterest and they haven’t replied till now

  23. I was suspended due to an error when entering my age. I have contacted Pinterest via their link mailto:privacy-support@pinterest.com 3 times and submitted ID. I have received 3 automated replies that I will receive a link to appeal, but to date have not received that link. I have been suspended for 10 days. Can you help?

  24. yesterday something really weird happened to my boards that were collaborative , so i tried logging out and logging back in. when i tried to log back in, it said that my password was incorrect when i surely thought that it was. then i tried another possible password option and it worked, but it took me to a completely different account. it had no pins, wasn’t following anyone, and literally looked like a brand new account. i assume it’s one i made years ago and never used, but the weird thing is the email i used is the only email i’ve ever had. so if this email is the one used for this false account, i have no idea what happened to my actual one. my friend tried to help me out and she searched my username up in pinterest and it didn’t show up. all of our collaborative boards together were now inaccessible to her, and it seems like my account no longer exists. i have no idea what to do please help

    1. Hi Lucy!
That is a very strange issue…I’m assuming it’s just a glitch on Pinterest’s end that hopefully can be easily resolved to get your account and boards recovered.
You will need to file a help ticket with Pinterest, which can be done here: https://help.pinterest.com/en/contact
If you don’t hear back after a couple days, repeat the process and file another help ticket. Stay persistent, polite, and patient with your communication to them!
      Good luck!!

  25. On 03/26/2023 I was notified by pinterest that after having my pin account for many years that my account was suspended. I emailed them several times, read & pointed out every single rule they listed as a possible reason for a suspension in an email to them & wanted to know why & when my account would be back on. I took screen shots of my account & pointed out to them there was nothing that I said that could’ve been mistaken for breaking their rules.

On 04/18 I finally recieved an email from them stating my account was reinstated. The suspension was an error on their part & they were so sorry for the mixup. That’s it. Sorry wasn’t helpful & it wasn’t purely a mixup.

I was furious with them, that’s why the last email I sent to them included each & every rule they listed & how I didn’t participate in any broken rules.

My advice, email them daily & don’t give up.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience, Sheri. We’re happy to hear you have access to your account again!

  26. my account was suspended 3 weeks ago, ive messaged through the help centre every day, only get the automated reply then nothing is there any other way apart from the “help centre”? going round in circles
it is not a business account

    1. Sorry to hear about this Joanne! We suggest you keep reaching out through the help desk – persistence is key in this situation!

  27. Hi
    Dear Pinterest Team

I received an email that my account named “Rinda Fergiawan” has been permanently suspended. I realize that my account has made mistakes that go against the guidelines that the Team has implemented. It was not my own fault, but rather my friend’s doing and using my phone sometimes without my permission. I feel hacked. I apologized for what had happened, and asked the team to reactivate my account. But thanks to Pinterest, I’m always inspired by fashion and other things in my daily life. The account is very valuable to me, so I ask the team to reactivate my account.
Thank you for your attention Pinterest team.
