Reintroducing Pinterest Shopping: What’s New in 2025
As fall rolls in, I always find myself revisiting a few key parts of our Pinterest strategy here at Simple Pin Media. It’s that season where I take a step back, check what’s working, and update what’s changed. One big topic that came up again recently after Pinterest Presents 2025 is the evolution of shopping features on Pinterest. Pinterest is leaning in hard on e-commerce, and as sellers, that means it’s time to make sure our catalogs, integrations, and visibility are fully set up to take advantage of it.

Why Pinterest Shopping Still Matters
Pinterest is a different kind of search platform. It’s not about typing in keywords as much as seeing something and instantly knowing you want it. That means your product pins need to be discoverable, well-linked, and visually appealing. Through programs like the Verified Merchant Program and catalog connections, Pinterest is working to create a seamless shopping experience for users and trustworthy visibility for brands. If you sell physical products and haven’t yet tapped into Pinterest, this is your reminder that the opportunity is still wide open and we can help you get started with our E-commerce Kickstart Program.

Understanding the Verified Merchant Program
The Verified Merchant Program is Pinterest’s way of identifying trusted sellers. It’s totally free, but you’ll need to meet certain requirements, like owning your own domain (self-hosted on Shopify or WooCommerce), having a business account that’s been active for at least three months, and a domain that’s over 13 months old. Once approved, you’ll get that little red checkmark badge that signals to users that your shop is legit, plus, your products get more visibility in search and recommendations. Just know that the process can take time and sometimes requires patience with the approval steps.

Catalogs vs. Pins: Clearing Up the Confusion
One area I’ve noticed a lot of confusion in even among experienced sellers is the difference between connecting your catalog and creating product pins. Connecting your catalog doesn’t automatically pin products for you; it simply keeps your product data synced and up to date. Think of it as your product library living on Pinterest. From there, you still need to create your own pins: The kind that tell a visual story and encourage saves, clicks, and purchases. For example, if you sell candles, create lifestyle images that show your candle glowing in a cozy fall living room. Then tag your product in that image to make it shoppable.

How to Get Seen (and Stay Seen) on Pinterest
Pinterest recently removed the Shop Tab from profiles, which threw a few people off; But don’t worry, because your products are still there. They’re now discoverable through visual search, related pins, shoppable videos, and the main Pinterest feed. To help your visibility, create dedicated boards around trending topics like “Fall Home Decor” or “Holiday Gift Ideas,” and pin your products there. Your Verified Merchant badge will show on those pins, reinforcing trust. Remember: the Verified Merchant Program isn’t your shop, it’s a trust signal that works alongside your strategy. Keep creating content that inspires people to save, share, and shop.
